Introduction
During the Romantic period, the focus of the day was on the individual; the celebration, discovery and self-rule of one's own mind, body, soul and truth. Truth not being an absolute but only what it meant to the individual. The emphasis was on feeling and less on analyzing. Romanticism also embodied the man, God and nature in one. Literary and visual artists of the time revered liberty, survival, heroism and despair which were often manifested through the use of natural elements.
These values did not die with the original Romantics. The impact of the Romantic period still resonates to this day. It seems the search for truth through feeling, the championing of individualism, and the use of strong emotions as a source of aesthetic experience still apply today. Elements of Romanticism are strongly mirrored in many of today's popular art, movies, and music.
